#16 Goalsetting for the summer
I need to get my life in order.
I’ve been putting off sitting down and organising my life by thinking ‘oh, next week I’ll be a bit more free’, ‘oh, after exams’, ‘after work’, and now, when it’s become completely clear that work is never going to ease and so I really need to restructure things before it’s autumn again and I’ve done nothing intentionally.
So here’s a self-indulgent plan for the summer:
Find a workflow that I can stick to long term with Project Management. My new role has had me working more-than-full time. This is definitely not sustainable once university starts again. I’d love to find a way of making things work somewhere between the 20-40h a week range.
Become a community (theory) expert. I’ve got books lined up and that I’m reading, so by the end of the summer I want to be a lot more comfortable managing a community and building strong good vibes for work. At least knowing what to expect.
Film 2 videos a week for my channel. It’s not the easiest thing managing the channel as a one-man-show on top of everything. I need to focus on creating better systems, perhaps asking for more help when I need it and planning things a lot more in advance than I currently do.
Filming courses. I really have wanted to do this for ages. So I’m swallowing my insecurities and ignoring the screams of ‘who do you think you are’ in my head and I hope I’ll be able to do this soon! I really want to film a course that goes in depth on my second brain setup (this would be for professionals) and also some free courses for students. I’m thinking of perhaps Notion for students and how to write essays easily. These will need a LOT of planning that I should start scheduling in my calendar.
Newsletters. This (and now my book newsletter) feel like my babies. I really enjoy writing in them SO much. I don’t struggle with them, but I wish I could be a bit better, so I think I’d also like to research what makes a good newsletter, what’s the best things for me to write.
Finding a flat to live in. Moving is my yearly pain, and I have no clue where I’m going yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a new flat soon, so the pain of viewings and uncertainty can end.
Filming more vlogs. I enjoy them, but I want to challenge myself a bit more. Maybe talking to the camera in a vlog (shock horror) - if I get to be comfortable doing that by the end of the summer, I’d be super happy.
Having fun while not working. It’s the bottom of my list, but it is a huge priority. Meeting my friends more, painting more, taking time off, reading for fun. I really do need to allow myself to do more of these.
So that’s the general plan. Honestly, if I can tick off just number 8 on the list, I’d still be super happy. But let’s see how it goes! I’ll keep you updated :)
Wishing you a great week,
Elizabeth xx

🖤 My Favourite Things This Week
New newsletter - It’s been insane. Not only how exciting it is to finally set it up after having wanted to for ages, but also the responses! There’s already over 1,000 of us there. If you’d like to read my book summaries and thoughts, you can join here.
Bye-bye Instagram? - I’ve been off Instagram for a few weeks. It’s felt quite liberating actually. I do miss the memes and posting stories, but otherwise, not much else. I never spent a lot of time on it, but I did find it made me feel sadder than happier most of the time. I’m still not sure whether to re-download it or not.
Book - This has to go to Unconditional Parenting, Alfie Kohn. SUCH an amazing book that had me deconstructing my childhood all week and realising all the ways I’ve developed maladaptive behaviours, and how I still fuel them. The full summary is here.
Song - It’s an old (and weird one) and annoyingly it isn’t even on Spotify 😭 but I’ve been listening to Low Shoulder - Through The Trees recently. Shoutout to anyone who knows where it’s from ;)
Blue jeans - Ok, I bought my first non-black item for the year. Light blue summer jeans. That are not even skinny. (Wild.) I’m excited to try them outside, will let you know how it goes.
