#22 Are you still the same person?

How often do you check with yourself to see if you’re the same person? How much of your outdated behavioural patterns, defence mechanisms, routines and beliefs do you carry with you? Even beyond their expiry date, more damaging than healthy?

I’ve been doing some mental spring cleaning. And I’ve realised, I’m really not the same person.

I never before appreciated the importance of values - but really, they are the backbone of my behaviour. They help me decide what I like and don’t like, what I spend my time on, what to panic and hyperventilate about when threatened.

And although they change slowly, values do change. While mentally spring cleaning, I realised my main source of anxiety and panic in life was over things I really didn’t care about, but I was automatically freaking out over, just because I always had.

I’ve never been financially comfortable. So a stable and secure life is what I’d always craved. Taking a break from that path was terrifying. But I’m not that stability craving girl anymore. I now want life to challenge me, and I appreciate it when it does rather than panicking.

This made my anxiety over this break from university disappear in a second. And the list of reliefs just goes on and on.

If you’d like to try this exercise out for yourself, I’ve put together a Notion page with instructions here: https://pointed-dog-abb.notion.site/640e79cc895147598fae29a767b4e83d?v=a1f0871f0b1247c3ae299a42fb980979

Wishing you an amazing week!
